Greetings from Marietta, GA! Completed my first build...

Post by bourbonbladesbbq » June 23rd, 2020, 8:29 am

Thank you for the allowing me in the forum! Work in IT and spend most of my free time tinkering in the garage.

After seeing Aaron Franklin's smoker build on PBS, I decided to take the plunge into building my own unit instead of dropping $5k-10k on a Yoder trailer. In the last month, I finished building my first offset with a 250 gallon tank. My first real experience doing any metalwork and first ever experience at welding. It was quite a challenge for me, but very pleased with the result. The smoker has amazing draw, which is all I can ask for.

I documented the process on YouTube Click here : Bourbon, Blades & Barbecue. I welcome and appreciate any subscribers...

I would have embedded the videos inline, but I can get the YT button to work...

Also on my build bucket list:
  • Rotisserie smoker
    Smokehouse
    Woodfire Oven
I'm also a KCBS competitor, certified judge and table captain. Thanks again for the invite!

Welcome! I watched your build on Youtube - all 12 episodes - some time ago. Nice looking rig. I'd love to see some pics here. And some Q pics! Can't wait to see posts on your bucket list. Giddyup!

Your cuts and welds will come out better if you brace yourself somehow. Find something to prop your off elbow or wrist on to keep your hands steady. And whatever you do, don't try to cut with one hand! :o

Did I cut something with one hand? If I did, I don't recall it...

That grinder is too heavy for one handed cutting.
