Getting closer. Don't have a ton of time to work on it this week. A few more pics.
Better view of air intake
Burning for the first time to help clean out the inside of the tanks.
Wheels attached, legs made and flanges for the fb done.

You may want to pull the rubber ends off of those latches unless they're made for high temperature. It looks great!!

Looks like there should be a flux capacitor in there somewhere...
Nice build though...

I was thinking the same thing, I've seen them replaced with normal bolts. Looks fantastic & definitely needs a flux capacitor!Big T wrote:You may want to pull the rubber ends off of those latches unless they're made for high temperature. It looks great!!

Re: 1st build from compressor tank questions
Thanks guys. Yeah I already melted some of the rubber. Definitely going to pull off or put carriage bolts. If anyone has a flux capacitor I'll mount it. Haha

I like it even if it doesn't have a flux capacitor. Staying tuned for the Q-veiw.

Re: 1st build from compressor tank questions
Baffle and drain installed. Need to do a little more welding on the baffle and need to finish grinding the drain even to the top of the baffle, but ran out of time today.

I cut it flush and still need to grind the weld around the pipe so it's completely flat. Forgot to take a picture.Big T wrote:Did you cut the drain pipe flush with the BP ?

Re: 1st build from compressor tank questions
So I just realized that I put my drain on the same side that I'm putting my handle (opposite side of the wheels and same side as my legs). Do you think that this is going to matter? I'm not sure how much grease I will need to drain or how often. Just seems like it would be easier to lift the smoker from the handle I mount to move the smoker around. If this makes a difference I may just drill a few holes on the opposite side and move the wheels.

Re: 1st build from compressor tank questions
I don't think it will matter. Truthfully, I didn't install a drain at all in mine. I scrape off the baffle plate every now and then before I cook (which is never often enough) and I've never had any trouble.

Re: 1st build from compressor tank questions
I put my drain on the same end and I made the legs adjustable so I could make sure it was level wherever I set it.

Re: 1st build from compressor tank questions
Ok thanks. Good to know. Wasn't sure but figured a lot of grease would just burn off during the cook.
I definitely thought about adjustable legs.

Re: 1st build from compressor tank questions
Here's what I did for my exhaust stack.Something to consider for your next build.
I made my door cut at 1" past top dead center and put my stack out at an angle.
The stack also doubles as a door stop/rest!
Here's a pic.

Re: 1st build from compressor tank questions
Ok got the baffle welded in (a lot of welding) and the drain is now level.
Just need to make the cooking grate, charcoal basket, shelf, chimney damper and handles then paint and BBQ
