Careful with that knife!
So I was chopping onions one morning and accidentally dropped my chef knife...
3 hours and 20 stitches later...

Careful with that knife!
Wow, you keep that knife sharp.
So how will this story evolve, losing a fight to an unarmed onion when you had the knife may need a little embellishment.
Glad it sounds like only stitches.

Re: Careful with that knife!
Heh.... I took 4 stitches, 2 each in the index and middle fingers on my left hand, right across the pads. NEVER felt the cut..... I instinctively had swatted at a fly while holding a chef's knife. Took my g/f 2+ hours to convince to go to urgent care, the doc on duty (I was their last patient for the night,) kept telling me that I need to listen to her more often.
I despise dull knives, they're a major safety hazard.

I agree with Dargo! This story is going to need some embellishment! Some thing like... Chuck Norris threw a knife at you and you kicked it out of the air!

Hope you make a quick recovery!!

Re: Careful with that knife!
Bummer....think we have all done it at least once. (I know I did!) Sad that i was more concerned about the knife than getting to the ER.
It is hard to resist the urge to try to catch the knife as it falls but doing so generally results in a much worse hand cut. Congrats for not doing that, at least. Looks like a really good job on the stitches tho and a nice clean cut. Should heal up pretty quickly.
I’m sure the dr said to stay off it for a bit....maybe what he REALLY said was ‘sit in front of a smoker daily for a week to allow healing’. Guess true interpretation depends on if the wife was in the room.

I have been lucky with a few near misses over the years but I always envision a missing toe or two as the knife is falling. Get well son Pete.

Thanks all! OK, I confess, it was Chuck Norris and Freddy Kruger.

If it's tourist season, how come I can't shoot 'em?

Needs to be sharpened. Should have needed at least 30 stitches.

Re: Careful with that knife!
Nice!
I tell friends/family when they come in the house that my knives are ‘razor blades with handles’ and recommend they stay out of my kitchen. Glad I’m not alone in my sharpness obsession.
How is it healing?

Re: Careful with that knife!
I have a 10" meat slicer with a blade so sharp it scares me. When I clean that thing It's like a surgeon doing open heart. Very careful with it and never let it off the counter or over the edge. If that disk were ever dropped it would cut a foot off even through a boot. I won't let my wife near it either. The directions don't have you take the blade off the machine to clean it.......I take it off every time as there is no way to make the machine clean without removal.
Glad you did not have more damage.
