Chunked wild. Cherry

I have a question for the group. Yesterday I was cutting a load of firewood and in the load was wild chockcherry had some rot that went to the wood pile for my boiler and I have about 1/4 cord of good stuff that I split to different sizes. now the question that I have what size do I need to cut it in to chunks on my miter saw for the UDS fire basket is 12 x 12 x 8.

I don’t use a drum but do have lots of time on small off-sets with a charcoal fire.

I used a lump charcoal base and then added small splits for the smoke. I would recommend 6-12 inches long (whatever will fit) and pretty small splits in the 1.5-2 inch diameter. Chunks are fine too if that is easier. I wouldn’t use a chunk much over 3-4 inch dia tho.

Thank you sir. The way I have it now I could use it in a stick burner if I cut them in half. I cut my firewood at 24" so it would be to long as is.

Cube them up in about 3 x 3 chunks and bury one or two below your charcoal. I learned the hard way that putting them on top will soot up your cook.
