Not good!! None of the local recyclers around here will buy any type of tanks unless they have a large hole cut in them.

In the end, this is why I went to a local tank-building shop and had them roll me a tube to spec. I'm not saying it can't be done safely, just that the risk was more than I was willing to take. I could see that flare lighting my house or the woods around it on fire pretty easily. Ouch!!

Would one of those combustible gas detectors off amazon be good to test for fumes before cutting? Just wondering if anyone has used anything like that. I know this is an old thread but Ive been looking all over for a foolproof way to test these tanks. I have an old 60 gallon tank I want to start working on

That video... wow can't believe that guy went back to kick it. The Amazon leak detector I am not sure. At my job we sometimes play with cng and LNG gas and have leak detectors although they work I would not depend on them for that. The detector sometimes gives false alarms for different reasons. Filling with water and purging with argon is probably as good as it gets. Still scary tho.
