Latch and thermometer. Ruff Ground edges. All that's left is cooking racks and rails and chimney stopper.ImageImageImage

She's almost done. It always seems the last little bits take the longest.

Especially when you buy the wrong latch catch and you gotta build an offset that doesn't look stupid... or when you get slag in your nipple so bad the thermometer won't thread and you have to cut it out and start over.... Definitely ready to get those racks in and get paint on it.

Completely understand why it's a $4k smoker.

I've got two of the little buggers that need finishing. Stopped building them when I became too busy with my daughters wedding and a whole slew of projects got in front. Now I need the room in the shed and a gf smoker on the back deck. Now if only I could find my enthusiasm pills... :D

A *REMOVABLE* ash pan....... Hadn't really contemplated that, but adding a couple of simple deflectors while building the ash box would make that pretty easy. The pan sides just have to be lower than the air inlet. That's one heckuva good idea. <scurries off>

I made mine a little taller with a notch for the air inlet.

I told my wife I was going to have to build one of those for the back patio. She just gave me the look. I just don’t know why they don’t love the idea.

You have to phrase it in a form of a question. Honey would you like for me to be able to spend more time with you...? You would.... Well I am going to build a gravity feed smoker with an auto pid controller so I can cook you wonderful BBQ with the least amount of effort.... I could purchase one of them, but it would cost thousands of dollars and I think I would rather spend the money on other things that will also make you happy.

But what your really doing is making it where you can go fishing and cook BBQ at the same time and saving money for a boat ;)
