2" x 1/4" -vs- 2" x 1/8" Strap?

Post by Barrion2018 » August 6th, 2022, 7:26 pm

Being new to this, I'm curious why it's suggested that you use 2" X 1/4" strap around your doors instead of 2" x 1/8" strap? When 1/8" is so much easier to work with over 1/4".

I used 1-1/2" x 1/8" around my door on the first ever build I did this past end of winter, and was woundering if I srewed up? So far it's working great, but don't know what if any problems I may have down the road.

The reason for this question is, that me and my daughter are building a RF for her, and when it comes time to trim out the doors with strap, I don't want to use the wrong stuff.

1/8'' thick flat bar is perfect for door strapping. I've used both 1/8'' and 1/4'' and they've held up fine for several years now.

Frank likes the 0.25 flat bar for some reason, lol.

I've done 1/4". Do 1/8" and never question whether you should have gone with the thick stuff. That's all I have to say about that lol

Thanks guys, really appreciate the info. I'll stick with 1/8"

I appreciate this subject being opened. I wasn't planning on using 1/4" flat bar either for my door flanges. Seems like it'd be a lot harder to work/bend than, say 1/8". Good to hear that 1/8" holds up fine...
