Thanks guys! That one was inspired by all the folks using rectangular or square stacks and thinking it's all just about stack volume.
If it's tourist season, how come I can't shoot 'em?

Re: Online Calculators
Redesigned and renamed the Stack Calc. It now calculates the length of any non-round stack based on the stack volume from the PitCalc.

Wow Pete I wonder what you could do if you really tried. I know DC will be along soon to validate the claim that you are an overachiever.

Re: Online Calculators
Pete,
As the creator of this calculator, can you please tell me what the calculations are founded on. I have been trying to research this a bit and have come up empty handed. I am not concerned with the basic geometry calcs, but where the sizing of cooking chamber to fire box comes from and throat area and inlet area. Were they derived from heat transfer equations or just best practices used by pit makers?

After using the pitcalc above use my calcs to work out the details . Same basics as a fireplace and derived from a spreadsheet created by Alien bbq.

Re: Online Calculators
The smokerbuilder pit calculator will figure a rectangular build. The Fb is 107% of the recommended size so it's right on the money, the calculator calls for a throat of 284 sq inches. The BP gap is the same as the throat or up to 75% smaller, I haven't built one with that tight of a BP gap so I don't know how it would perform. I have built mine the same as the throat and haven't had any issues but I'm working on an adjustable BP gap on my current smoker that will range from 50% - 100% of the throat so that I can do some testing.SAFETYHARBORREDNECK wrote: ↑November 20th, 2019, 5:18 pmAny calcs for square box smokers?

I’m using 5.5” id pipe for my stack. So when I put the diameter into the smoker builder calculator is that calculating the inner or outer diameter? Should be inner right?
