Working on my first UDS build! Started with a food grade barrel with the red lining and burned it out this past weekend. Set the leaf blower to it and had it roaring like a jet engine, all the paint flaked off and even laid it over towards the end and let the coals rest on the sides. After that went after it with comet and a brush. Still looked a little dirty so I used a wire brush on the end of my drill to hit some spots and they came out like the pics attached, took some effort to get it to that. My question is did I not burn it enough? Am I over thinking this and how do I tell if what I've got is good?
Good burn?

So long as you got rid of most of the paint should be good to go. And once you season it with oil prior to cooking it will be fine.

Re: Good burn?
One thing for sure you will never get it half that hot again. Whatever is coming out is done.
