HoBo Burn!!! 1st UDS

Post by Mprourke » January 28th, 2017, 7:12 pm

Burning out my barrel today and having some issues with the lid. I got the fire nice and hot and put the lit on and the fire must have gone out shortly there after not burring the lid at all. What is the best way to keep the fire hot with the lid on?

Make sure you have a path for the air to flow in & out of the drum. It sounds like you might not have any exhaust when you put the lid on. The pic's didn't come through so I can tell for sure.

I can't see your pictures but I drill the holes for my intakes and build the fire, let it burn the drum out pretty good and then I lay the lid over the fire. I don't lock the lid in place because the smoke and heat needs to be able to escape and if you get the lid too hot it'll warp out of shape.

Have 3 total 1 1/8 intake holes. I reformatted the pics to see if they will show up now. i let it burn for a few hours and then put the lid on. i did lock the lid so it would not warp.

You may have to use a shop vac or leaf blower to add some extra air inside the drum. The intakes that you have are designed for low and slow cooking and they don't allow enough air for a ragging fire. When you locked the lid on it starved the fire out.

You oughta see what happens when I'm hanging out with D.C. And I'm the driver for the night. I observe best when I'm sober.

Just sayin.

Did another burn today and got the lid nice ant toasty for an hour or so. I then cleaned with comet and the top came out pretty clean some of the paint came off the lid but you can see that it all did not come off. I dont know if it is going to be ok to use this lid as is or if i am going to need to get it hotter.
