Mini UDS scale?

Post by c.hazelton » August 23rd, 2015, 10:33 pm

If building a mini UDS with a 30 gal. drum, would it be safe to assume 60% dimensions, firebox, inlets, etc. of a regular 55 gal. drum

I would assume so, but I wouldn't necessarily follow that formula for your fire basket. It might take a lot less to get the drum up to temp, but reducing size too much might dramatically reduce your burn time. I built a 15 gal mini uds that has a slightly larger than proportional fire basket, but it only gets me about 3 hours of cook time by the time the drum is up to temp.

I make the inlets and smoke stack the same size but the basket like mike said I do proportional.
