Good looking welds... nice

Thx Foxy. Aiming to open the doors tomorrow. What do you think - square or circle on the firebox. Kids say circle.

Square firebox.

So much easier to build and work with.

Haha. Thx DT. Another reminder to slow down, measure twice and cut 3 times. I think I read that somewhere.
Yea I think I might know where you saw it. =))

The firebox is round. Tank. Was thinking of making the door something like this:

Or this ...

Cut the firebox door and started on the CC door. I forgot I don’t have flat bar for the door flanges so I stopped before I cut it all the way. Want the top and bottom on before I finish the cuts. I also cut off the pipes and filled the holes on the CC.

Looks good. It's to late now but that bung on top of the fire box would have been handy on the bottom to rinse the ashes out with.....you probably have a plan for that anyway!

You forget, I have a weld eraser.

I do have plans. That's going to be the opening/baffle for the WC/vert smoker sitting on top of the FB. Bung on the top of the tank could have been for the grease trap too. That one really is too late.

Welded the top and bottom flanges on the door before I cut the sides. Hoped this would strengthen everything so it wouldn’t spring when I cut the sides. Not sure if that did the trick or not but the door only warped a tiny bit. Not sure I’ll even fix it. So I got that going for me ... which is nice.

I use rope gaskets on my rounded doors so I don't worry about a little tweak here and there.

Hahaha. It’s going on a small trailer. This is an order from a friend who wants to cater small functions. No more than 30 people.

@andysmoked - and I can’t wait to see your first cook. You gonna throw some vaunted Australian lamb there?

My apologies, I got my build threads confused. I’m obviously reading too many.

Definitely going to do a lamb shoulder, with iron bark (our hardest wood) providing the smoke.

Lamb is one of my absolute favorites. A whole rack ... mouth watering :homer:

Got the door on the CC. Gonna need a bit of torch work to get the door flanges a little more even around the door. Gaskets will be a must. Toggle clamps on both sides too. Worked on hinges for the FB door too. Thinking I can make a round flange for the round door when I cut the end off the tank I’m using for the warming chamber.

It can be really tough to get those curved doors to fit just right. When I built my first cooker I worked for several evenings with a jack and chain trying to get my door just right. It never was perfect and it drove me crazy, especially my OCD but once I got my gaskets on and painted it, you really didn't notice it. I like the idea of using the other tank bell for your door flange because that would be a hard one to form from flat bar.

The FB door’s turning out nicely. The hinge is roughed out but I may have drilled the holes a bit large. Gonna make a trip by the hardware store to see if I can find a tighter fit. Maybe hollow tube as a bushing just in the hole.

Didn’t get too much done today. Just printed off a mitre pattern for vertically mounting my warming chamber tank on the round firebox. Cutting it freehand with the plasma worked reasonably well. My wife says the tank looks like it’s winking.
