First smoker build.

Post by Fireems1989 » June 11th, 2018, 10:40 am

Hey guys.
I sure am glad to find this sight. I am starting the mock up for my first reverse flow smoker. I have built 2 cookers from scratch and fixed or reworked several others for friends. This is going to be the cooker that I have been dreaming up for the last 10 years. My dad and I have been doing cooks of all kinds since I was still in diapers and we have always had to borrow cookers because of the amount that we cook. I have a cylindrical tank that measures 48" by 96". This will be a double door 4 and 6 shelf pull behind kitchen that my dad, brother and I can cook whatever we want for as many as we want. I have played with the calculator some and cant get the results that I am looking for(user error). I have read several of the discussions that are up and you guys seem to be great at helping each other out. I am looking forward to working with you all and hope to meet up with a few of you in the area if a meet is put together on the mid-east coast.

Welcome to the crew.

Learning generally boils down to "Repetition or the avoidance of pain", some people learn by doing, some by watching and some just have to pee on the electric fence.

Whether you think that you can, or that you can't, you are usually right. Henry Ford

Welcome aboard!! You've definitely found the right place for designing a smoker. Feel free to ask any questions that you have or toss out any ideas that you have for feed back. That size tank will make for a nice smoker.

Thanks. I played around with the calculator after reading up on others problems and fixes and think that I have got enough info to do a good rendering. Looking online now to try and find a free cad program to build it in, not much of an artist.

From the comments the you guys put a lot of trust in the calculator. I have never used anything like that before. How accurate is it.

I've built a few RF's using the calculator and they all perform unbelievably well. Frank recently built a 1000 gallon offset using the calculator, it runs like a Cadillac and doesn't use very much fuel at all. I like to make the FB in the 105%-110% range of the recommended size, 115% is max.
