I'm putting a 10 gauge plate/diverter over the opening. May put sides on it so it could be used as a water pan if I choose

Great looking build... is that a charcoal basket in the bottom, kind of like a UDS cabinet ??
I use a water pan in my GF vertical cabinet sometimes, and find that really helps with grease management, but any water in a pan can be a real mess if trailering. Watch for grease to collect along the sides or corners of the cabinet if it is not sitting perfectly level. A diverter lip all the way around the bottom (and door) may help the grease drip from the sides into the water/grease pan and keep it away from that FB opening.
One word of caution related to grease management INSIDE the cabinet... I have a grease slide that drains to the outside, but it is close to my heat transfer tube. I measured the temps on the grease slide and noticed it can go over 350F during the "full pull" with lots of cold meat inside or after opening the door with the call for more heat (using a stoker fan)... if the water/drip pan gets over 212 F , it will eventually boil off, and if it gets past 325 or so with grease collecting in the pan, you may get some stanky smoke smell, or worse, a grease fire.
