Remodel reverse flow smoker
I have a reverse flow smoker that is 24" x 85". I would like to make some changes to the set up. I have a new firebox which is 18"x24"x30" that I want to install. I have questions about the throat size and the height of the baffle plate. How big should the opening from the firebox to the cook chamber be? And how high from the bottom of the cook chamber should the baffle be? How high above the baffle should the firebox be mounted? I have a few ideas. I'm just second guessing myself and would like advice .

One of the more knowledgeable members will pipe up shortly.

Welcome! Your throat should be 104 sq inches, the shape doesn't affect the performance. Pete has a throat calculator that'll help you figure out which shape you want to go with. Most guys run the BP the same height as the top of the firebox but I like to raise the BP an inch higher and add a shadow plate below the BP for the first 12'' or so.

It is nice when the plan comes together. So did you do what Pete said or come up with something else?

Was it as good as it looked?
I was only asking as I waited for samples.

The only taste I got was when I was slicing it. So I guess the answer is yes.Rodcrafter wrote:Was it as good as it looked?

I know what you mean NT I take a brisket to an annual get together each time and slice it and by the time I get my plate I'm lucky if ther is still any there.

Re: Remodel reverse flow smoker
It’s been awhile and I took on a new venture. I decided to give a offset with tuning plates a try it’s actually my old reverse flow that got a face lift and put on a smaller trailer.
