250 gal tank end

Post by h2orescuemedic » July 22nd, 2017, 2:50 pm

I have the end of a 250 gal LP tank, Is a 1/4 steel tank end to heavy to build one of these from. I realize its going to be extreme over kill and very heavy to pack around but I already have it.

Has anyone made one out of this heavy of metal?

Just looking for Ideas before I start cutting on my scrap pile pieces.

As you stated it is overkill and will be big and bulky but it should hold heat well and if you don't mind the before mentioned I'd go for it. I have zero experience with discada's just my opinion.

great idea!
heavier is always better! you could always move it with a machine or put it on wheels...... or just don't mover it.....

RC would attest that it can never be too thick. Just put it on wheels. Mobile Disco brings back images of the 70's...

I use something like it as a cowboy cooker. It's the part that holds the charcoal and I made my discada and a couple of grilling racks fit on it for a great portable setup.

anyone have a easy way to find the center of the tank end? And how to make a circle around the center. I am finding this more difficult to make it perfect round then I first thought. Still trying to figure out how big to make it

It was a rainy day so I started a new project, I now have to wait till Monday to get some metal.

After lots of thinking about this build, I believe I am going to build removable and adjustable height legs for it so I can cook over an open fire.

It'll probably take a little bit but once that thing gets hot you'll be able to do some serious cooking.

Had a free day around the house, so I thought I would finish out this build.

I am very happy with how this turned out. Can't wait to show this bad boy off at the next gettogether. Only thing I am missing is the bolts to hold the legs on incase I want to cook over a fire.

I have not weighted it yet but it 26 1/2 inch across the round part, and 40 inches across the wings. The legs are cut to 39 inches and fit nice in side the wings and across the cooking area

Playing on my phone I found a few websites like

custompipeburners.com.
https://custompipeburners.com/Straight-Pipe-Burners/5

A quick search on the internet and you can find lots of info about black iron pipe burners....

I feel a new build brewing. Thinking I am going to try and build a custom burner and stand for the disco... anyone got any input during the researching stage of this build

I don't know much about building a gas burner but Pete is pretty slick with that type of stuff. I'd be willing to bet that he could point you in the right direction.

I opted for one of these. It was about the same cost as just the parts.
