I finally finished this thing the day before thanksgiving to smoke the turkey but for some reason my BBQ guru wasn't working. Good thing I did a test run before i did the bird on thanksgiving. Hopefully I get it bac soon. Here are some pics, the deflector plates you see go in the smoke chamer just above where the smoke comes in. cant wait to test this thing out. Let me know what you think.

Darn nice lookin smoker! judging by the drips running down under the door, it looks like you may have fired it up... how'd it go? did you smoke anything?

:yth: I'm with Frank - That's a beauty! I'm curious what happened to your guru - please elaborate if you get a chance. I'm also curious what kind of temperature variance you get from top to bottom in your cook chamber. I'd like to build a vertical someday and that's the one thing I'm concerned about. Nice build... :-bd

Thanks guys. I did run it once to give it a test and check the temps on it. The thermos on the smoker had about a 15 degree difference between the 2. I may need to add another chimney at the very top because I think the heat just swirls around at the top but I'll see how it works out when I put meat in it.
I should be getting the digiq back tomorrow or Monday... They told me that they replaced a relay in it. The fan would just continuously run and never shut off, even when I had the power off to the controller

Thanks for the answers - my guru has problems with the operator and the factory won't warranty me so I guess I'm stuck... :))

Im not sure about their dime....$50 in shipping to get it there and back. But they do have very good customer service as they repaired and reshipped the unit back becauce of my time constraints. Thet are very helpful over there at BBQ Guru
@ kam- thanks, i bought those handels off ebay but the hard part was getting them mounted and functional.

I did another test run when i got the digi q back. It held 225 for about an hour and a half and ran out of wood. I built another larger fire but it burnt out of control, around 380. I did let it build up to that level and then i closed the firebox door to let the digi q do its thing, but it held at that temp(no fan this time). I figured out that it was pulling air through the blower. When i covered the opening with my hand the temps immediatley started to drop. Ill now be working on a draft door with using an electromagnet...
