Welcome to the crew.
BigT, DT or one of the other fellers will be with you shortly I suspect.

Welcome aboard!! I just tried the calculator on my PC and iphone and didn't have any issues. What type of browser are you using ? I know that my default browser isn't compatible with the new calculator so I have to use Chrome. If you continue to have problems we'll have to get Frank to check it out.

Re: Noob in the house
The vertical is typically only a warming chamber for you sides and such. With proper heat source and a damper it can be used as a cook chamber tho. We put the warming box above the firebox (with a damper between and a separate chimney in top) and thus do not count it in the cook chamber calculations. It gets mostly radiant heat and is considered a freebie.
Honestly, I have one but don’t use it much. I throw a pan of beans in it just because I have it but it would fit in the main chamber just as well. It looks cool and is nice to have but just might not be worth the effort.
By the way, your second picture is not going to be an efficient smoker and the round vertical is not going to hold much or have sliding racks. Go square....

Perhaps a "baby" Mack would be more suitable.By the way, your second picture is not going to be an efficient smoker and the round vertical is not going to hold much or have sliding racks. Go square....
I believe Frank and the boys are looking at plans for a scaled down Mack... right after they do the metric plans for the proper Mack...

But as DT mentioned, square makes heaps sense and increases your cook space.

What makes it unefficient, and does it calculates as chimney?
Im not worried about how much meat i can stick in there. I plan on making the Cooking surface in cooking chamber about 40"
thats enough for me. We normally dont have as big BBQ Partys here as you guys in the states.
I thought about have the vertical just in case.
But im a noob in the area so your expertize is valuable to me.

Re: Noob in the house
I believe what he’s telling you is the vertical needs to be over the FB to make best use of the CC (s) when the vertical portion is on the other end that portion of the CC has to be included in the volume of the CC in order to get the correct FB size. But then you need to be able to control the draft in each space or one may be too high or low. Vertical above the FB is like a gift, not a bigger FB or any extra work.
