The "Project " goes to work

Post by towtruck » November 8th, 2018, 11:35 am

Since my wife won't let me say bbq or smoker anymore I have to call my trailer rig "The project"....well, today "the project" gets to go on it's first outing. I am cooking at work for 11 people. Everyone is bringing something and my job is to bbq the chicken. Since the smoker side would have been idle and I have the time I decided to make some ABT's for everyone to enjoy.
I still have a couple more things to add to the project like a paper towel holder and more supplies but it's hooked up and ready to go!

And the ABT's.....

Not a great big meal but it's the amount of people I normally cook for so the project is the right size. The wind is supposed to howl today and we have a place that is somewhat sheltered but if it gets too bad I can bring it inside our huge building and cook indoors as long as I don't set off the fire alarm.

Dinner will be served at 7:45 pm. There will be chicken, abt's, salad, rolls, mashed taters, and ice cream for dessert. The location is......well, I don't really want to say for security reasons. I will say I work in law enforcement but I wont say where and for whom in an open forum. But, if you just happen to be driving through the very northern part of the state and smell bacon you might be getting close.

Perfect spot for the paper towel holder, right under the overhang of the tool box. Such precision planning... I'm impressed. :D

Huh?

You don’t “get” paper towel holders....you “make” them!

Just kidding....hope your cook goes well. Looks like this is a perfect test of a successful build.

When the wife buys you a paper towel holder you say thank you and put it on the smoker if you ever want back in the house. :PBox:

The cookout went well. I am going to have to make a damper for the intake on the bbq though. I want some more control over the air when doing chicken. The food came out perfect and the whole thing worked very well. I have to reinforce the handles I made on the fire baskets and tweak the bbq a tad but it works like it should.
The guy the brought the chicken put a dry rub on half of the batch and dang that stuff went up like roman candles when on the coals. We had to rake the coals off to the side and keep those pieces from sitting directly over the coals.

Here it is set up at work, I was just getting the smoker going....

And here we are bbq'ing the chicken...we had to move it over into the light to see what we were doing. The ABT's were smoked for three hours at 225 and the chicken was cooked pretty fast (45 min) on the bbq.
