Rib Roast

Post by mp4 » April 18th, 2019, 3:35 am

I found a deal on rob roast at Meijer in Marquette MI...now to learn how to smoke one up!

I may have over indulged...I bought a couple 15 pounders, a 12 and an 8 pounder for me and 3 more 8 pounders for some family members. I think I may get to do some practicing!Image

Learning generally boils down to "Repetition or the avoidance of pain", some people learn by doing, some by watching and some just have to pee on the electric fence.

If you've got freezer space (and a vacuum sealer....) no, you haven't over indulged, not one bit at that price.

I may be smoking a rib roast this weekend, haven't decided yet. Rub of your choice, and low & slow. I smoke at ~250 to an internal temp of 125-130. I have a hard time going beyond rare to medium rare on this cut.

A few years back, my g/f's family descended on us for a weekend visit, something like 13 people. I smoked an entire rib roast, and nothing was left after dinner. Even the token vegetarian in the crowd had to try it.

I’ve never cooked one of those babies but i would love to take a crack at it. I would inject a little Worcestershire Sauce and beef broth for some Flavor, wrap it in Saran Wrap and leave in the fridge for a few days. Cook day... rub it heavy with salt and pepper...and since medium rare is popular cook it at 225 so I could extend the cook time to give it more smoke flavor. Maybe halfway thru I’d put it in a pan to catch some au jus. I’m not even s big fan of beef but just talking about it makes me want some! Don’t forget the pics !

Me too bro... and I can’t even eat meat right now! But I hope he’s cooking one of them for Easter. I’ll be checking for pics!

I didn't get a chance to cook one up yet, but my brother-in-law did in his outdoor electric oven that he has convinced himself is a smoker. He said I was fantastic...ImageImage
