Re: Sarsaparilla
I'm thinking sassafrass roots make tasty tea but I have never personally seen anyone smoking with it. All the carcinogens talk about the tea makes me wonder but man I am thinking that would it smell awesome with pork IMO. Just don't get your leaves mixed up and smoke with muleberry

If it can't be smoked .... try frying it. It that don't work, it's probably best just left alone

One final thought, I'm thinking that is gonna be a HEAVY flavor so I'd go light handed if ya try it.

Re: Sarsaparilla
sorry for replying to an old thread but i want to clear something up.
sassafras doesnt really contain any carcinogens. What it does contain is Safrole. The DEA/FDA does not like people ingesting Safrole due to its compunds so they claim its a carcinogen. research it for yourself. if it wasnt for the DEA/FDA poking there ugly heads in everything; we would be able to drink REAL sasspirilla
i like to use it when i want to impart a light rootbeer flavor. it also grows EVERYWHERE in these parts so its hard not to use it
