Stumps Clone Chute Built onto a Freezer

Post by Tom_Heath » January 29th, 2011, 11:32 pm

Here is a pic or two of my dreams. Thanks to Frank, thanks for the hookup man.

This is going to be a slow build as I want everything to be perfect. Its gonna have a stumps clone charcoal chute and firebox for heat delivery, a diffuser plate and also a grease catcher/drain. Its already in my trailer but not alot will happen to it until spring temps get here.

Stick with me on this one guys, it'll be a awesome build when its done.

Here is what I am thinking.
This is going to be smoker on top and storage on the bottom with 6 inchs of insulation between the top and bottom. Its actually starting to look like a backwoods just a little bit.

The looks will change here in a short time when I add the chute to my drawing.

Thank You for the encouraging words, I sure hope I don't stress out to bad before its built.

I am using google sketch up 8. It isnt bad, just a little different.
When I made the drawings for my bender brake I was able to save them as dwg or dxf files so they could be read in the other cad programs but I can't figure out for the life of me how I did it.

I went back in and scaled my drawings to shrink down the front to back measurement, and also the height of the chute.
Here is a couple more shots that may clear up the way the fire works.

Right above the door and right below the rectangle tube entering the chamber, there will be a charcoal grate made from 1/2" round stock.

I am thinking around 4 feetish wide not counting the firebox by 29 inchish deep and about 6 feet tall.

Allright.....I got all excited getting the pics into the last post and somehow I had a brain fart and didn't save my work. Doouuughhhhh....

I had a SOS moment I guess. And incase you all didn't know SOS translates to Stuck On Stupid. But I went back into the program and redid everything. The chute is resized, the diffuser plate ad drain is in, and the grate is in the firebox. Shezzzzz all that work and I haven't even started yet.

BTW I am trying a new pic setting, Please let me know if any of my stuff is to wide and making you scroll side to side.
Thanks.

Stumps Clone Chute Built onto a Freezer

Post by want2smoke » February 7th, 2011, 12:04 am

Under further investagation I had to change up the size of the firebox just a bit. It seems I was closer to building a forge/potery kiln instead of a smoker. LOL Opps.

I also added a diffuser plate below the drip tray.

I hope you all arn't to dissapointed but I think I am going to build this from scratch. :o
The more I look at the freezer, the more I want to put the shelves in it and use it for storage on the trailer. I'm thinkin it will make one heck of a dry box. Shouldn't be no critters getting in there either. And besides that, when I open up the trailer at a competition everyone is gonna say WOW look at that. BTW.. I can't think of a comp I have attended that it didn't rain or snow at some point during the event.

I think I will open up the front where the comp deck was and make stainless doors and use that for storage also. The stuff that won't hurt if it gets wet. So I think between the storage there and the storage under the smoker, I shouldn't need any more. I can leave everything else open for work/party space.
