2nd smoker......finally

Post by JohnBFryJr » September 26th, 2016, 11:51 am

I've been rolling change for a while now. I've got a 250 gallon tank I've been sitting on waiting for cash. Finally my prayers were answered and I fell into a little cash.

This time I'm going simple firebox with damper. Here are some of my numbers.

261 Gallon tank
24x28x30 fb
161 in throat opening

Oh and this time I'll need to mount it to a trailer. That's another project.

Good grief a 4x10x.25 is heavy. As I got it past the trailer I was cutting it off in pieces until the good lord saw fit to bring a big rain shower. Oh and by the way don't use a plasma in the rain. I got shocked pretty often. This is going to be one big cooker. I'll post picks once I get some stuff tacked up.

Dear friend......come in out of the rain with power tools. Especially the ones that run a big 220 volt arc.

I believe you had better thank Darwin for not selecting you this week as his example!

I backed the trailer up to the garage and pulled it off little by little. There was some water involved and a whole lot of sweat. Got my first corner mocked up and I'll tack it tonight. Now that I started this project my wife wants to paint the house. Double duty it is then.

Question now is FB door. I have some time to think about it.

No pics never happened.

All my bungs are 12 oclock so I guess I'm going to have to roll it over and cut the feet off. What a bummer.

I'm going to try and frame out the door for the firebox like TQ does. Can someone tell me what size angle I should go with? 1/4" by 1.5" maybe?

Might be just me, but I don't understand the question.

I used a 0.75 x 0.75 x 0.25 angle on my warmer door and then framed the opening in 1 x 1 x 0.25 so I have plenty of flat mating surface for my gasket. Plenty strong enough.

Thats the answer I was looking for. I wasn't sure how small .25 angle came in. .75 and 1" will work just fine. Thanks.

I think 1" is as small as it goes around here. I use 1" and 1-1/4"

Everything is to heavy to deal with in the garage. I'm going to ospho the firebox and cc then drag it outside to be lifted with my bucket truck. Welded upside down and flipped right side up on blocks. Hopefully I can leave it ouside without to much rust.

You could make a removable ash pan out of 16g with a removable handle. I made one for my GF & im so glad I did.

My hats off to people that can make beautiful straight slag free square cornered holes with a plasma cutter. No really. I suck at it.
