Looking good,

With the mitered corners, I would make a couple small fish plates and lay them inside the angle to reinforce the joint. Your gonna have alot of weight sitting up there and moving down the road is gonna make it even worse for wear.

Just my 2 cents.

I always go for the over build.

The mitered corners do have a nice look to them tho. I like it.

I've never built anything that large but it looks hell for stout to me - I'm sure Smokertom is right about going down the road - when I loaned out Edna last time for a road trip she came back with broken hinges soooo ....
Smokerbuilders do it slow to make it last ... ~O)

1st and second photos are before and after of my wife lookin at Jerrys door!! LMAO
2nd and third are of Jerrys door ( yes i'm well aware I will nerver get those 15 min of my life back !)
And the last two are of the fire box door skirting.

Pretty sure you right about the 15 minute deal, but as stated, so long as you are having fun thats what counts.
